oe Kanfer is the Chair of the Board of Trustees of United Jewish Communities. He is a past chair of both UJC’s Jewish Renaissance & Renewal Pillar and Nominating Committee and served as the Chair of the 2005 General Assembly. Among many positions in the federated system, he has served as Campaign Chair for Young Leadership of United Jewish Appeal and Chair of Community Services for the Council of Jewish Federations.

He has a special interest in Jewish Education and is a past Chair of JESNA, the Jewish Education Service of North America, and past President of the Jerome Lippman Jewish Community Day School. He serves on the Board of Jewish Family and Life and the Covenant Foundation.

Joe is active in the Akron and Ohio communities including Akron Tomorrow, the Regional Development Board and is past Vice Chair of the University of Akron Board of Trustees. He is a past officer of the Jewish Community Center and is a past President of the Akron Jewish Community Federation. Joe has been active in Democratic politics in Ohio.

Joe is Chairman and CEO of GOJO Industries based in Akron, Ohio. GOJO is a leading supplier of hygiene and topical pharmaceuticals for healthcare and institutional markets. GOJO’s most well known product is PURELL® instant hand sanitizer.
