Ray has represented individuals, families, financial institutions, medical institutions, and governmental organizations in all areas of his practice. Ray has extensive trial, appellate and mediation experience in state and federal courts. Ray is frequently appointed Guardian Ad Litem and defense counsel by judges in complicated guardianship matters; he is also appointed Special Administrator by judges in problematic probate matters.
Ray was named an Illinois Leading Lawyer in Trust, Will & Estate Planning Law, having been nominated by his peers as one of the top 5% of practitioners in this state. Ray also received an “AV®” Preeminent Rating by his peers through Martindale-Hubbell, the highest possible rating, and has been recognized by Super Lawyers magazine as a Rising Star in 2010, 2011 and 2012, an honor bestowed upon only 5 percent of the attorneys in his peer group. He was the only Illinois attorney recognized as such in the Trust and Estate Litigation category for three consecutive years.
Ray is an adjunct professor at The John Marshall Law School. He teaches an elder law course with topics including guardianship, advance directives, discrimination actions, ethical issues in determining competence and cognitivity, elder abuse, and end of life issues.
Ray is a frequent contributor to Clark Hill's Estate, Trust, and Guardianship Controversies Blog, where he posts entries about current issues and events relevant to estate, trust, and guardianship litigation.
