Ec Archives

Ec Archives
When I started publishing the EC Library thirty years ago, there were not enough EC fans to justify printing each comic book in full color, and the color in the original comic books was, in my opinion, rather primitive. There was also considerable interest in seeing the EC artists' work in black and white, since that was the way it was originally drawn.

So in 2006, with the backing of Gemstone, I started publishing the ultimate EC collectors' volumes, the EC Archives. In the half-century from the 1950s to the 2000s, the methods of producing color changed completely, and skilled operators on computers were now able to produce any color in the spectrum, with highlighting and an infinite degree of shading. Another factor was that printing full color books in China was now making it possible to print much more economically than printing in the US. Both Marvel and DC were producing Archive editions of their older comic books, so the EC Archives was launched with WEIRD SCIENCE One, with a foreword by my friend George Lucas, and SHOCK SUSPENSTORIES One, with a foreword by my friend Steven Spielberg.

These EC Archives books are highest-quality, full color hard covers (with dust jacket).  The color in these books finally was able to do justice to the artwork, and I worked closely with the computer color technicians to produce what I thought was the best possible color.

Each volume of the EC Archives contains six complete EC comic books; complete with the original letters pages and house ads, and adding a page of commentary to each issue. At 11"x8.5", the EC Archives books are slightly smaller than the EC Library books, and somewhat larger than the original 10"x7" comic books. So far the following 13 volumes have been published.
